“First of all, I would like to draw attention to the fact that the Public Commission on the Assessment of Economic Damage Caused by Ukraine was formed in December 2019. 19 people joined it. The purpose of this commission is to help residents of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics in preparing documents, appeals and complaints to the European Court of Human Rights. For a long time we have been facing a law issue: people whose houses and apartments have been damaged or whose health have been affected cannot defend their interests in courts on their own. We help this group of citizens. Legal entities turned to us as well: large enterprises that sustained significant damage. According to preliminary estimates, the total amount of damage caused to residents of Donbass by the armed aggression of Ukraine makes more than 130 billion rubles,” said Anastasia Butorkina, Chair of the Public Commission for the Assessment of Economic Damage Caused by Ukraine.
The resolution on the results of the roundtable was announced by deputy of the DPR People’s Council Elena Shishkina. “For the period of assisting the Public Commission on the Assessment of Economic Damage Caused by Ukraine, 1.2 thousand citizens have been enlightened. Of them, 1,050 citizens agreed to file lawsuits with the ECHR. Also, following the discussion, we have decided to continue providing assistance to the Public Commission on the Assessment of Economic Damage Caused by Ukraine. We will continue to explain to the citizens of our Republic that everyone who has suffered from attacks of the armed forces of Ukraine has the right to get compensation for non-pecuniary and pecuniary damage. In the near future, the Free Donbass Public Movement intends to reach out to another 2 thousand citizens, inform about the possibility of filing lawsuits with the ECHR to collect non-pecuniary and pecuniary damage caused by the armed aggression of Ukraine.
